How to fix up your garden with little cost.

How to fix up your garden with little cost.

While we (The Mecs Staff – Hello!) have been off, a few of us have developed green thumbs over the past few weeks. We wanted to share our best tips to develop a nice garden, whilst sticking to a budget.

While in Lockdown – there was/is (depending on when your reading this) very little to do. Many people across the country, not just in our office, have taken to gardening/neatening up their garden to help pass the time. While we may not be gardening experts, although Sami did want to be the Harborne DIY Expert at one stage too. We still believe we can provide fantastic advice to you and your green space.

Why?
We all had a go at neatening up ours!

1 – Create some structure. Add some paths, platforms, patio etc. Create separate spaces for separate activities in the garden. Keep busy areas busy and quiet areas quiet – after all with all the good weather our little gardens are becoming very well used.

2 – DIY your own furniture. Why not restore that old bench? Create a parasol holder out of a palette? (Wonder where these ideas are from – Sami). By trying to make do and improve on pieces you have lying around the garden you can often save yourself a fortune. Not everything which is broken can be fixed – but a lot of it can.

3 – Give your fences some TLC. Broken, shabby looking fences are a quick way to make your garden look tired. Make sure they are all treated – fresh and without holes – Maybe its time to replace the ones which fell during those storms?

4 – Get the weeds out!

5 – Grow your own. Get online, buy some seeds, and grow your own Vegetables. There are hundreds of plants from carrots to “Cuca-melons” (I’m not sure what they are either) for you to get stuck in with. While yes, they do require some TLC – they are the perfect way to add a use to those awkward patches of your garden.

6 – Get out there and enjoy it. We’ll be honest with you – some of the best fun we’ve had in the garden, was actually fixing it up. As someone once said, “Life’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey”.

One final little tip for helping your garden is to water the grass - now we know in england it rains, and when it rains you can avoid watering the grass. But in times of heat, when the grass goes yellow, as soon as the sun goes in get outside and water the grass for a while - this will make the grass really birght green again.

In conclusion, we think there are hundreds of ways you can get in the garden and neaten it up more. From home-made bird baths to Outdoor Chandeliers. A quick Google Search will help with inspiration, tips, and tutorials.
