Adding colour and texture to rooms doesn't have to be expensive - little things can make a drastic improvement to the overall aesthetic of a room! Here's 4 of, Interior Stylist, Masie Rees' best hacks to add some personality to your rooms:

1.Add colour to your walls

A small pot of paint can make a big difference, not only is it a quick and easy way to give your home an instant update, it’s budget friendly too. Whether you’re making a statement with a feature wall, or covering an entire room with your perfect colour, your room will feel refreshed and transformed in no time.

Renters tip: try removable wall paper as a non permanent solution to adding pattern and colour to your walls

2.Use what you already have

Spend time looking at the furniture you already have in your home and assess what pieces you really need and if they are being utilised you their fullest in the position they are in. Moving furniture around encourages you to de clutter and keep items that serve a purpose. Items you no longer need can be taken to charity shops or given new life...

Renters tip: when buying furniture opt for items that usually have multiple uses, eg. side table that doubles up as storage

3. Upcycle to update

If you have a piece of furniture that’s looking tired, or you’re looking for a unique piece of furniture to update a room with, why not try your hand at upcycling? Often inexpensive and always eco-friendly, you’re able to create your own unique piece of furniture that will become a talking point amongst your guests.

Renters tip: if you’re unable to wallpaper your walls, then try applying wallpaper to a wardrobe or coffee table for a splash of pattern.

4. Add pattern with soft furnishings

If you want to take the plunge with adding bold patterns to a room then why not try accessorising with decorative throws and cushions. With plenty of retailers offering affordable soft furnishings, invest in different sized cushions to layer up aswell as throws and blankets to soften your interior.

Renters tip: if your home already comes furnished, invest in a sofa cover to make it look like new, or drape it in colourful throws.

April is a good time for buyers to focus on readiness rather than guesswork. In a market where choice has improved but confidence remains mixed, being organised can make all the difference when the right home comes along.

With new legislation coming into force from 1 May 2026, tenants across the private rented sector will have the legal right to request permission to keep a pet, & crucially, landlords will no longer be able to unreasonably refuse. While this marks a positive step for animal lovers, it also reshapes the way tenancies are assessed, agreed, & managed.

The UK’s buy-to-let sector has been under sustained pressure in recent years, but fresh data suggests that while landlords continue to leave the market, the pace of this so-called “exodus” may finally be beginning to ease. This shift is worth paying close attention to as it signals changing sentiment among investors and rise of new opportunities.

April is the final window for landlords in England to prepare for the first phase of the Renters’ Rights Act. With the new tenancy regime starting on 1 May 2026, now is the time to review paperwork, processes and whether self-management still feels realistic.
